STORY TIME:
It was sophomore year of college when I began to receive emails about joining Honor Society and becoming a member. Naturally, I asked my friends and colleagues about it and because there was no “proof” of it being real, we ignored the emails and assumed it was fake. .
.

A year had passed and it was the summer of my junior year, and I still kept getting emails. Eventually, I looked into the organization and came across different chapters and soon realized it was legit and that IUPUI did not have a chapter. I contemplated bringing a chapter here but was nervous and honestly discouraged because no one else was doing it. Isn’t it funny how we wait for approval before making a big move? .
.

Needless to say, I applied to be a chapter founder to the national office and got accepted !! Then I submitted my application to campus to bring the chapter here and after waiting 6 months .. I was officially approved by campus and became the chapter founder. I made the announcement via social media and got little to no love or support (LOL) .. it crazy because I was waiting all that time for approval and then when I finally did it, I STILL HAD LITTLE TO NO SUPPORT. .
.

Side note: don’t let anyone discourage you. Success sometimes is only made visible through your vision and leadership … not from the approval of everyone else. .
. Anywho, I continued to network, developed an executive board and hit the ground running !! I saw so much growth and maturity within myself and that I would have never seen if I followed the crowd that chose to ignore this opportunity. .
.

In college or in life, we often follow the crowd thinking it’s best because there is no evidence of an opportunity being present when really certain opportunities are only meant for YOU, that’s why people aren’t interested in it!!!!! This scholarship titled “emerging leader” speaks to that dedication, patience and perseverance of what it took to bring MY campus the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Honorsociety.org ?? and hopefully it will encourage whoever reads this to do the same !!! Ask me how to bring a chapter to your campus !!!!!
